Doodlers take Action for Epilepsy

Doodlers take Action for Epilepsy Congratulations everyone!  On 2nd of March all members of the Winchelsea school body took place in National Doodle Day.

The day focussed on raising awareness of epilepsy amongst our children and we would like to say a big thank you to Mrs Dennett (our Epilepsy Champion), who organised and coordinated the event.

Our efforts raised a terrific £85 - Well done!!

Red Nose Day 2011

Red Nose Day 2011 Red Nose Day 2011 was a huge success all around school, with lots of staff and children 'doing something funny for money'.  Together we managed to raise over £300 for people less fortunate than ourselves in Britain and Africa.



Nearly everyone dressed up in red, donated their 50p and wore their choice of red nose.  Lots of the staff decided to dress up as 'Where's Wally' and we're still trying to decide which one actually is Wally.

Winchelsea Success at U16 Boys Football Competition The team selected for the U16 Boys Football Competition at Redlands Sports Centre in Weymouth on 26th Jan 2011 consisted of:

Josh, James, Brandon Lee, Brandon, Stephen, Bradley, Ryan and Aaron

Results were as follows (Winners highlighted in bold italics) :

Winchelsea vs Beaucroft - 4-3

Winchelsea vs Linwood - 0-1

Winchelsea vs Yewstock - 0-2

Regardless of results the team played very well in all 3 games and worked really hard

School Closures Due To Snow

School Closures Due To Snow Having already experienced a recent school closure due to snow and ice, we thought it useful to remind everyone about where to find the latest information.



The decision to close a school is made by Mr Cook in agreement with the Chair of Governors, Mr Alan Muir.  They have to determine whether the children can travel safely to and from school and if the site will remain safe throughout the day.

Winchelsea strikers steal the show! The Boys U13 6 a-side football team travelled to Weymouth on Wednesday to take part in the inter-schools competition. Due to a poor turn out by other schools the tournament was merged to a training session and a number of 9 aside games. 6 players from Winchelsea joined with 12 players from Beaucroft school to form two teams of 9 players. They played in a pool system against Yewstock and Linwood. The team selected included the following pupils:

Raising the lid on bullying Today two of our school councillors, Craig and Ryan, represented the school at the Poole Secondary Schools Anti-bullying Conference.  The event took place at the Civic centre and was opened by His Worship the Mayor of Poole.

The boys joined in with a role-play activity in the morning, where they took the role of an iceberg, before breaking off into groups.  Working with children from the Grammar Schools, Corfe Hills, St. Alhelm's Academy, Ashdown Community College and Poole High School, the boys shared ideas about how to raise the profile of anti-bullying.  They devised plans

Winchelsea Unihoc Team win GOLD! The Winchelsea Unihoc team travelled to the Redlands Sports Centre in Weymouth on Wednesday 10-11-2010 to play in the Westfield Unihoc tournament. The team players selected were as follows:

Hollie, Anastasia, Lauren, James, Josh,  Chloe, Michael, Charlotte, Ryan and Nathaniel.

The team played three 9 minute games and the results were as follows:

Winchelsea vs Montacute - 14-0

Winchelsea vs Yewstock - 11-4 (Semi-finals)

Winchelsea take 3rd place at U16 Boys Football Tournament On Wednesday 20th October 2010 Winchelsea school took two teams (A and B team) to Beaucroft school for the U16 Boys Football Tournament. The A Team finished in 3rd place losing only to the 2nd place Beaucroft A team in the semi-finals 3-2. The star of the tournament was Brandon-Lee who individually scored 11 goals in the tournament, 5 of these in the 3rd place play-off. Yewstock school went on to win the competition who Winchelsea A team actiually beat 2-1 in their original pool! Councillors in Action

Councillors in Action This week members of the Winchelsea School Council have represented the school at two important events.





On Tuesday Philip, Anastasia and Chloe attended the Poole Schools Secondary Forum at Corfe Hills School.  Here they had a tour around the school led by the head boy, before taking part in a plan to have an online video conference with children at an African school in Ghana.
