Curriculum Statement

Curriculum Statement

Every pupil at Winchelsea has the right to a curriculum which is broad, balanced and relevant to his or her special educational needs.

Our pupils have the same right as all other school students; therefore the programme for all our pupils will include the National Curriculum, unless their Statement of Special Educational Needs specify otherwise.

Winchelsea pupils also have a right to a curriculum which addresses their special needs. It is therefore our policy to:

  1. Provide a curriculum for each pupil based on the objectives and targets identified in his or her EHCP and Annual Review
  2. Adopt teaching and learning approaches designed to help pupils gain the maximum possible access to the National Curriculum and a wide range of GCSE or equivalent course
  3. Help pupils develop confidence and self-esteem by ensuring they experience success and have their achievements recognised and rewarded
  4. Encourage the development of personal and social skills through an appropriate programme of teaching and pastoral care
