People and Organisations We Work With

At Winchelsea School we greatly value the partnerships we have within our local community and are keen to ensure that these connections foster shared values and mutual benefit in a sustainable way. Below is a list of our partners and some case-studies which highlight these important organisations.

If you are interested in working with us, then please do not hesitate to contact us at school.  The staff and pupils are always delighted to welcome new partners to Winchelsea School.

Partnerships with different providers are a valuable part of what we offer at Winchelsea. Quite often our pupils and young people are overlooked because of their learning difficulty and/or additional needs. In working with local people and organisations we are able to showcase and celebrate our pupils in a positive way, and in so doing break down some of the barriers that may exist.

parkstoneconclubThe Parkstone Conservative Club encourages Winchelsea pupils, from the very young through to the seniors, to come and enjoy the club facilities. We support the schools’ organisation of the Senior Prom Night. The Prom event encourages the pupils to consider all aspects of staging such an important occasion, including decoration, theme, advertising, etc. Younger pupils are encouraged to use the Club as a restaurant facility to help them experience different surroundings and new ideas.   Celia Herbert, Secretary   www.parkstoneconclub.co.uk

rotaryThe Rotary Club of Poole Bay is delighted to be working with Winchelsea School – supporting it in practical ways by proving much needed equipment and, it is hoped, by offering mock interviews to the pupils as part of their preparation for life after their time at the School. Supporting the Winchelsea School helps the Club achieve one of its key goals: helping young people achieve their maximum potential.

With over 34,000 Clubs and 1.2m members worldwide, Rotary is reputed to be the world’s biggest voluntary service organisation enabling business people and professional leaders to use their skills for the benefit of their community.

newtownNewton Conservative Club Snooker and Darts Team really enjoyed organising and taking part in a fund raising charity event recently. The snooker and darts marathon lasted 24 hours and was organised to raise as much money as possible whilst at the same time increasing the awareness of two great charities: Winchelsea School and Julia’s house. As well as snooker and darts for 24hrs, a family fun day was organised on the Saturday to run alongside the marathon event enabling everyone to join in and enjoy the day. Tel: 01202 380 109.

bournemouthbmxBournemouth BMX Club is run entirely by volunteers and has been running at Iford Lane for over 30 years. The club aims to provide a BMX facility for riders of all ages and abilities where they can race competitively or just participate in riding the track. We offer coaching sessions for all levels of riders and ages in a safe traffic free environment and the Winchelsea partnership has allowed us to offer these opportunities to the pupils also. We run sessions on Thursdays with the school starting with basic bike skills in the school grounds before going to the BMX track in Iford lane. The feedback from the sessions has been fantastic and it also allows the club to continue in its aim of getting more people involved with the sport. From a personal view the sessions have been a major highlight in my coaching schedule and I look forward to the next sessions soon.

aldburyThe Aldbury is a Colten Care home dedicated to people living with dementia. Its award-winning design features flowing corridors passing pretty courtyards and carefully maintained gardens, connecting themed rooms and lounges designed to stimulate memory and familiarity. The Aldbury has a strong reputation for helping residents, even with the most demanding dementia conditions, to live well. The Aldbury’s belief in enabling activity makes it a happy and cheering place to be, with a strong sense of community and togetherness.

The community togetherness we have with Winchelsea School is priceless, there are no barriers between residents and students and each values and respects each other. Our residents love the pupils’ visits and so enjoy the laughter, fun and therapeutic grand-friend relationships that they bring. The pupils also join in with the activities and fun with the older generation, interested in the stories of the residents’ own childhood and listening to their life-stories with vigour, respecting things the residents have experienced in their life time. In return, the residents love to listen to the students own conversations, hear their laughter and see their smiling faces.

activedorsetActive Dorset is an excellent organisation that has provided Winchelsea School with opportunities for our students to not only take part in sports they wouldn’t normally have access to, but also for the school to identify specialolympicstalents that would otherwise go unnoticed.

After our visit a teacher asked how one Winchelsea Student could get involved and he has been training with us over the summer. Now he is ready to sign up to our groups as he wants to compete so it was definitely work our time. It was important for us to raise awareness of the Special Olympics and we received a great response.
